Protect A$AP Rocky’s leather jacket at all costs

A$AP Rocky knows what he’s doing. Sure, he’s dabbled in the left-field. But he knows his way around a classic too – and few of the staples are as staple-y as the leather jacket. 

Leather jackets have become weird lately. In a good way! There’s been a rise in the popularity of motorcycle jackets, but not the traditionally cool, black double rider’s style, or the more minimal cafe racer. 2022 has seen a reappraisal of moto style in general. The primary coloured, sponsor-clad retina scorch that felt more NASCAR than New York Fashion Week. But, in line with fashion’s 20 year cycle, these statement pieces have been everywhere, worn oversized below undersized Matrix sunglasses and big stompy trainers. Or goth boots, if you're especially Y2K. It's fun. But there’ll always be a place for a simple, black leather jacket.

A$AP knows this. He’s previously donned all manner of sleek leathers, from Brando-esque pieces through to buttery trucker jackets. For his latest trick, he went deep into his bag to pull this equally classic bomber, complete with pointed collar, elasticated cuffs and hem, and minimal panelled front. It’s the kind of piece US Air Force pilots might have worn in the mid-century, but thanks to its slightly boxy fit it’s also got a slight ‘90s Bruce Willis/Arnie quality to it, and we’re not mad about it. 

All that's finished off with a double denim combo underneath, consisting of straight leg washed jeans and a matching trucker jacket up top. It’s a clean, wearable fit and one that puts the classic, black leather jacket front and centre, but still feels a bit A$AP in the double denims. Will it suit everyone? Maybe not. Will it still be worn in another 80 years time? Absolutely.
