In the building curtain wall industry, the two major types of ACP sheets, aluminum honeycomb sheet and Acrylic Sheet Manufacturer are in the limelight. The two sheets look similar, but the two materials have different internal compositions. Keeping this in mind, we have compiled some points of difference between the two to make an informed choice when purchasing.

Aluminum Honeycomb Panel

Aluminum honeycomb panel is a sandwich panel whose design is inspired by the natural hexagonal honeycomb. Its structure is designed with upper and lower aluminum alloys attached to an aluminum honeycomb core, forming an I-beam.
Honeycomb panels have a polyester or fluorocarbon coating. The non-rippling and self-cleaning properties of fluorocarbon are suitable for exterior panels, while the polyester coating is more visible in interior panels.

Like honeycomb panels, these are also sandwich panels. The structure or ACP sheet consists of two thin sheets of aluminum alloy pressed together with a thermoplastic core to form a sandwich shape, hence the name sandwich panel.

Differences

Weight

Although both panels are made of the same material, they have different weights. The design of the panels is the reason for their weight difference. Aluminum composite panels use a layer of PE or LDPE, made of plastic, and are 3mm to 8mm thick, while honeycomb panels use a honeycomb core layer that is lighter than the plastic core and are 12mm and 25mm thick.

Form Retention

The use of cladding materials has recently changed as structural design has evolved. Today, the shape of the panel is based on the design of the building structure. Aluminum honeycomb panels bring ingenuity to the design because they have better formability.
Panels are easier to form in any design as needed. Sheets can be formed into single curved panels, double curved panels or flat panels. These panels are also known for holding their shape over time, which helps give structural shape to many cladding designs.

Application Differences

Aluminum composite panels are well known for their use in walls, signage and facades. The use of aluminum panels is also included in the furniture industry, as the panels glue well to plywood or wood to give a gorgeous look to kitchen or bathroom cabinets.
Meanwhile, aluminum honeycomb panels are known for their use in aviation, aerospace, transportation, construction, military and other applications. Because of its structural stability and low density, it is widely used in rocket fairings, automobile skins and doors, train bulkheads and building curtain walls.

Which wall panel is better

Having understood the differences in material, construction and weight, you already know the quality of these two panels. Now, if you want to know which is better, then I would say both are better. Both are used depending on the need and application. So, when you buy an aluminum panel, identify your requirements and choose the ACP panel that best suits your needs.
