Easy Routines for How to Clean Quartz Countertops

02 Apr.,2024

Cleaning white quartz countertops can be a breeze since they are extremely low maintenance. The main reason why I decided to go with quartz as our countertops during the designing stage of our home was because of the easy maintenance. You can have a sparkling white countertop that is sure to impress year round with the right care and the right cleaning products.

The white quartz countertop in my kitchen are the Alpine quartz from Vicostone’s collection. The Alpine quartz replaced the original builder’s granite countertop that came with our house. One reason I love the Alpine quartz for our kitchen is that it features large quartz particles that look like glass. This style of quartz was a favorite for my kitchen in particular, because it is classic in nature. I knew that if I ever decided to change any of the elements in my kitchen, this quartz would be a compliment to any aesthetic.

In my bathroom, I chose to go with a different style quartz than in my kitchen. The quartz style in my bathroom is Vicostone’s Carrara quartz. This quartz style is very unique because it includes these warm grey veins floating across the marble stone. I am absolutely in love with this design. One thing to note – I did not have to go pick out the slab for either countertop. These quartz countertops are pretty consistent in design when they cut down for an order. In most instances, it is recommended to pick out your slab of quartz physically. This allows you to have an idea of what the design will look like for the finished product.

MY FAVORITE ELEMENT OF QUARTZ COUNTERTOPS

If you look-up just about any “Pinterest-worthy” picture of a kitchen, you will see the iconic white surface countertop. White quartz countertops are great if you want to bring in brightness to your kitchen space or love to bring less attention to dirts on your countertops.

LOW MAINTENANCE

Traditionally, white countertops are made of natural marble and while marble looks amazingly stylish with any kitchen design, it doesn’t lend itself to being easy to clean if your kitchen is the heart of your family, as it is for mine. Cleaning white quartz countertops, however, can be effortless and that is the perfect choice for an active family. This is why quartz countertops are definitely my top choice for white countertops.

DURABILITY

White quartz is extremely durable and resistant to stains. This is a great property to have for a kitchen countertop. There is no need to worry when food or drink gets spilled because it’s a quick and easy clean up. Quartz are stain resistant, but they aren’t stain proof so care should still be taken around messes.

ROUTINE WHITE QUARTZ COUNTERTOPS CLEAN-UP

For routine cleaning quartz countertops and dealing with spills, I use eco-friendly all purpose surface cleaners and microfiber cloth. Microfiber cloths are great to use because they are not abrasive. If you do not have a microfiber cloth a simple, non-abrasive sponge can work as well.

The main goal is to stay away from any cloth with a rough surface, which can damage the quartz countertop. My routine cleaning products on my countertop is Seventh Generation All Purpose Cleaner or Mrs Meyer’s All Purpose Cleaner. These products are tough cleaners yet safe for the family.

TACKLING TOUGH STAINS & DEEP CLEANING

For any food that may become hardened on the surface, a simple, plastic  putty knife can help with removal. This can work with anything from spaghetti meat sauce to gum that may have gotten caked on. With tougher stains, extra time may need to be taken to clean these spills. With these stains I use eco-friendly speciality cleaner that are concentrated to tackle tougher stains.

Also, I let this cleaner settle on the stain for 5-10 mins to saturate the stain then wipe with a microfiber cloth.

I repeat this step until the stain is fully removed. My best cleaners for quartz countertops on tough stains is the Mrs Meyer’s Baking Soda Cream Cleaner or Bon Ami Powder Cleaner.

ROUTINE WHITE QUARTZ COUNTERS CARE

There are a few noteworthy things to consider when routinely caring for your quartz countertops. Any spills should be wiped away as soon as possible so as not to stain the countertops. Also stay away from harsh cleaners which can ruin the integrity of the quartz. Harsh cleaners include anything that is acidic or made with alkaline.

Another thing to be avoided is cutting directly on the countertop. A knife, especially a serrated knife, can create major damage on your countertop. I always use a cutting board so that I do not ruin the quartz. Last but not least, too much heat can negatively affect the look of your countertop To combat this, I use a heat pad when transferring hot dishes from the stove or oven to my quartz countertop.

White quartz countertops are beautiful and stylish in a contemporary kitchen. With simple routine cleaning  with the right products and care its beauty will be maintained and you will always have the kitchen of your dreams.
