How To Care for a Farmhouse Sink

05 Sep.,2023

Many thanks to our sponsor Sinkology in this kitchen renovation. All opinions are my own and always will be! Thanks for supporting the content that keeps Jojotastic going.

Now that our new kitchen is revealed, I want to dig into some of the details of the space… and answer your questions! I was asked on Instagram about our farmhouse sink, specifically if it stains easily. This got me thinking that it was time to do a full blog post all about our Sinkology Bradstreet II Fireclay sink! If you’ve ever wanted to know how to care for a farmhouse sink, whether it stains, and more… this is the post for you.

My Best Tips about How to Care for a Fireclay Farmhouse Sink from Sinkology

The sink that we chose for the space is called the Bradstreet II Fireclay sink. I immediately loved it for so many reasons: the clean lines, undermount feature, and the durability. We had to have it.

The key to the sink’s durability is the material. It’s made of durable, genuine Fireclay, which means it’s the most stain resistant finish available! Sinkology fires the sink at over 2100 degrees to bond the glaze and clay for life long durability — plus, there’s a lifetime warranty! The sink is guaranteed not to chip, crack, stain or rust. And lastly, Sinkology has reinforced their Fireclay sinks with a Signature Glaze that creates a surface that is non-porous and easily cleaned.

So let’s dig into caring for your farmhouse sink…

As with any sink, this one requires require cleaning with warm, soapy water. Also, be sure to dry your sink with a soft cloth to prevent water spotting. If any food is stubbornly stuck to the surface, I’ve used a wood or silicone spatula to scrub it off. Sinkology has also created Breeze scrubbers, which are so great. It is made of Clean-Guard™ silicone that’s soft enough to avoid scratching your sink. Also, the scrubber is mildew-resistant and long-lasting. You can even use it on pots and pans!

You can also care for your farmhouse sink with the Fireclay CareIQ Kit. It’s literally made specifically for Fireclay surfaces! The kit includes the Defend protective sealant, Restore cleaning polish, and a microfiber polishing cloth. If you want your farmhouse sink to shine like it’s brand spanking new, I cannot recommend the Defend component enough.

Discoloration

If, somehow, your farmhouse sink develops any discoloration, not all is lost! Try using a mild abrasive, like baking soda. Avoid steel wool or metal cleaning pads. Sinkology has an even more thorough guide to caring for their sinks, so definitely check out this post for more info!

I’m not joking when I say that I have a tendency to break everything and our Sinkology farmhouse sink has withstood some serioussss testing in our home. I could not recommend it enough if you’re renovating soon!
