Polypropylene or PP meltblown nonwoven fabrics are made of polypropylene with fiber diameters of 1 to 5 microns and have excellent oil absorption, insulation, filtration and shielding capabilities and properties. PP meltblown nonwovens have a variety of wrinkle-resistant fluffy structures and voids. Due to its ultra-fine fiber filtration properties and unique capillary structure, it has been used in various filtration industries such as air filters, masks, N95 masks, water and other industries.
To produce these technical fabrics, several processes must be followed.
Step 1: Polymer feed
Step 2: Meltblown extrusion
Step 3: Fiber formation
Step 4: Fiber cooling
Step 5: Web formation
Step 6: Reinforcement of fabric formation
1. Healthcare industry - medical cloths/workwear

5. Industrial fabrics
Uses: filter materials, geotextiles, cement packaging bags, insulation materials, covering fabrics, etc.
6. Other miscellaneous uses
Uses: from tea bags, cigarette filters, space wool, insulation cloth, linoleum, etc.
7. Medical / N95 masks
Known for its use as a key element in N95 masks and surgical masks, meltblown fabrics are often marketed with a multi-layer construction called SMS construction. It simply means S - first single layer, M - middle meltblown layer and S - outer layer of spunbond fabric layer.
Europe CE Particle Filtering Half Mask
PP meltblown fabric filter media for masks - a key element of the pandemic period. These masks are usually made of three layers of PP spunbond nonwoven, PP meltblown nonwoven and an outer layer of another PP spunbond nonwoven. Often some short fibers can be used in place of one of the layers to improve skin feel.
Usually, the outer layer is a non-woven fabric with a water-repellent treatment. The meltblown middle layer consists of specially treated meltblown nonwoven. It has extraordinary oil absorption, shielding, filtering and insulation properties. The inner layer is made of ordinary nonwoven fabric. From all the above analysis, we can see that meltblown nonwoven plays a key role in the production of masks.
