Here is a brief guide to understanding weight limits if you already use or are planning to use pallet racks in your warehouse.

There are three types of pallet racking available including standard adjustable pallet racking, narrow aisle racking and drive-in racking. In the UK, the size of the pallet is usually 1200mm x 1000mm whereas, a pallet in the EU is 1200mm x 800mm. It is recommended that each rack is fitted with a load notice that clearly indicates the maximum loading of your racking.
When a specialist company designs your racking or you need to work out your maximum weight load, you’ll need to take a few things into consideration including:
● How wide the bay clear entry is
● The racking’s beam section and whether it’s a box beam or open beam
● Beam depth
● Racking frame size
Maximum loads
In general, the maximum load allowed per pair of beams is normally four tonnes, but it can vary depending on your duty frames:
● Standard duty frame - these frames can normally carry nine tonnes
● Medium duty frame - these can usually hold 15 tonnes
● Heavy duty frame - these have a maximum load of 20 tonnes
These are general weight limits but it will all be dependent on the heights and depths of the frame itself and the design process.
