Heat Output In Formaldehyde Production - Student

21 Nov.,2023

Formaldehyde will be produced from methanol in the presence of oxygen. Since it is an exothermic reaction, the heat class comes out and the heat consists of the heat pipes and the steam boiler. And this heat is generated by electrically powered steam turbines.

After methanol is evaporated in the evaporator, it is mixed with 11% oxygen in a heat exchanger at a temperature of around 170 degrees. They mix the return gas with the air to bring the oxygen to around 11%. This mixture is then reacted with iron molybdenum catalyst in a fixed bed reactor with 12000 thousand tubes. Because the reaction is exothermic, heat is released. Molten salt is used for the heat transfer process.

At this stage, I need to detect the heat released from the reactor. That's because the heat is then used to power the steam turbine. How can I detect this heat?

According to the reaction, 38 kcal of heat is released for 1 mole of formaldehyde.
