Carbon Fiber Industrial Uses

Why Is Carbon Fiber Preferred Among Other Materials?

With the advancement of technologies, manufacturing companies prefer to use carbon fiber instead of fiberglass, wood, plastic, or aluminum, that were all used in the past. Carbon fiber makes products more efficient thanks to the fact that this material is robust but, at the same time, lighter than other.

We all know that the lighter an object is, the less energy it requires to operate with. Another advantage of carbon fiber is the fact that it expands minimally when being heated, which leads to better precision of performance.

Some of the Industries in Which Carbon Fiber Is Used Today

There are a lot of applications of carbon fiber in different industries. Here we have chosen to introduce you to some of them:

Carbon Fiber in the Aircraft Industry

Carbon fiber is applied a lot in various parts of aircrafts. It is preferred over metal for building planes because it is a durable but much lighter material. An interesting fact is that 30 % of the carbon fiber that is produced is applied in the aircraft building business. All types of airspace devices such as flying jets, helicopters, or gliders, rely on carbon fiber to increase their performance.

Carbon Fiber in Sports

Surprising or not, carbon fiber is also wide-spread in the sports industry. This material is most typically applied in the production of different sports equipment items such as golf clubs, hockey sticks, tennis racquets, ski or kite equipment. The interesting thing is that it can also be applied in running shoes to make them stiffer. Don`t forget that Nike has a football boots line Mercurial Vapor SL made of carbon fiber for real soccer players.

All adrenaline-seekers who do extreme sports owe a huge "Thank you'' to carbon fiber as most of their equipment is made of it to preserve their lives. Here, we have to mention the chassis of racing cars and all helmets used in dangerous sports, or special leg or arm protectors, which are extremely strong and lightweight.

Carbon Fiber in the Military

Carbon fiber is used in all kinds of military equipment to strengthen it and to make it lighter. It is also utilized in military missiles and planes.  One of the newest applications of carbon fiber in the military is for the creation of flapping wings which are attached to drones intended to be sent on missions of surveillance.

Carbon Fiber in Medicine

Carbon fiber is also one of the materials that are preferred among others to be used in medicine. One of the reasons for this is that it is X-ray transparent. This fact makes this material visible on X-ray images. The most significant use of carbon fiber is in making artificial limbs. Carbon fiber is good for making splints for arm and legs because it can have a custom shape.

Carbon Fiber at Home

Carbon fiber is also widely used at home. We are probably unaware of all its uses it has and all the things surrounding us that are made of it. If we consider interior design, carbon fiber is a modern material because of its stylish black color. You can have almost any piece of furniture made of it. It is also applied in more unusual things such as pens, phone cases, and even bow ties.
