What is Graphite?

Graphite is a form of carbon that has good electrical and thermal conductivity and is commonly used in industrial applications in high-temperature and high-pressure environments. Graphite is mainly divided into two types: natural graphite and synthetic graphite.

Natural graphite is an ore formed deep in the earth's crust through geological changes. It has a natural layered structure, which makes it have good lubricity and conductivity, making it suitable for various industrial applications such as batteries, pencil leads, lubricants and graphite products.

Synthetic graphite is made from carbon raw materials through high-temperature treatment and chemical reactions. Synthetic graphite is generally more homogeneous than natural graphite, has higher purity and mechanical properties, and is suitable for a wider range of industrial applications. Basically, there are four readily available synthetic graphite materials. Extrusion, vibration molding, cold molding and contact us. In general, extrusion and vibration molded materials are associated with larger particle sizes and lower densities, while cold molded and Iso molded materials are associated with smaller particle sizes and increased densities. These properties provide a good starting point for deciding which type of synthetic graphite may be required for a specific application.

What is Iso Molded Graphite?

The semantics of the phrase relate to the manufacturing method. "Iso" stands for isostatic pressure. The word represents constant pressure from all sides.

Molding refers to cold pressing through molding. This type of graphite is actually cold molded graphite that has been isostatically pressed. The result is a graphite material with excellent properties that is evenly distributed throughout the mass and has no grain orientation. Combining this with high density and small particle size results in a highly engineered material that is very strong, has good machinability, and is capable of retaining very fine details. It is temperature resistant, electrically conductive and has self-lubricating properties in a controlled environment.
ISO molded graphite has many advantages, including high thermal stability, good mechanical properties and chemical stability. It is widely used in high temperature furnaces, graphite electrodes, semiconductor manufacturing and other high temperature industrial fields. Manufacturers are leveraging new technologies and improvements to existing manufacturing processes to design and manufacture the next generation of Iso molded graphite materials to make them stronger, denser and deliver superior performance.
