who uses a screwless precision vise for Milling?

I use the small vise in the big Kurt all the time. The first type is the better one in almost every way, but I find them a pita. The second type, if it's a typical import, suffers from various problems, but can be fixed. The screw usually bottoms out on some high friction irregular surface. Plant a button of Delrin, graphite loaded PEEK or some other decent low friction engineering plastic in the bottom of the hole. Readjust the length of the screw so the retaining setscrew lines up with the groove again. Or, enlarge the groove. Next, shim or otherwise adjust the piece that retains the jaw so the jaw moves but has no play. Now you have a halfway decent little vise that can actually clamp something.
